Troubles with Instagram/Facebook and “#” hash parameter [updated]

Hi to all

we have just found out that if you had set your tracking links to have the hash “#” parameter in them and if your affiliates are using those links in Instagram or Facebook, the referred visits that they are sending from there will not be tracked. The cause of this is because Instagram and Facebook are removing the tracking parameter from the link.
If you have affiliates using Instagram and/or Facebook, then use the “Location parameter” for your affiliated link.

  1. Why would this small bit of information not be on the setup page rather than a link that is easily overlooked? If we switch do we then have to resend the affiliate links to all our affiliates or will the hashtag links continue to work as well?

    • If you make changes to the template of the tracking link i.e. you change the link type or link name, the old type of tracking links will not work. Your affiliates will need to update the already shared links.
