Payment methods

In this blog post we will talk about the various payment methods you can use to pay your affiliates in Affiliatly.

We currently offer six different payment methods: PayPal, Bank Transfer (SWIFT), cheque, gift card, bitcoin and Google Wallet. You can choose which one(s) you want to make available to your affiliates in the Settings page of your Affiliatly admin panel. Your affiliates can choose their preferred payment method in their panels from the options you have enabled.

PayPal

You can pay your affiliates via PayPal in two different ways – individually or using PayPal RESTful  API.

To pay a particular affiliate, you need to go to the Affiliates page in your panel, find the affiliate and click the cogwheel on the right. In the details window, go to the tab Earnings, enter the sum in the “Amount to be paid via Paypal” field and click the “Pay the affiliate” button. You will be taken to PayPal’s website where you can complete the payment. After that you need to go back to the Earnings tab and enter the paid sum in the field “Mark sum as paid” and click on the “Save the marked sum” button. Doing this will deduct that amount from the affiliate’s unpaid earnings in the Affiliatly database.

In order to pay using PayPal RESTful API, your PayPal account must be cleared from Paypal to be able to make payouts via the API and set it in Affiliatly from Settings > Payments > “Paypal API” (on that page you will find tutorial how to do that). Then you will be able to make a payment by clicking on “Make payments” in the Affiliates page. You can choose the affiliates you wish to pay and change the payout sum if necessary. Using this method will automatically mark the amount as paid in the Affiliatly database.

Bank Transfer

Another option for paying your affiliates is via bank transfer. When an affiliate chooses this payment option they need to provide their bank account information on their profile page in their panel. When they reach the payout sum, you need to make the transfer manually from your bank account. After the transfer is made, you must open the details window of the affiliate by clicking the cogwheel in the rightmost column and go to the “Earnings” tab. There you should enter the amount you have paid your affiliate in the “Mark sum as paid” field and you can also add a comment for the payment (e.g., “March Commission”). Finally, click the button “Save the marked sum”. Doing this will deduct the amount from the affiliate’s unpaid earnings in the Affiliatly database.

Gift Card

Gift cards for your shop are another available method of payment. You can set it up from Settings > Payment > Gift Cards. There you should enter the codes for the gift cards (note that you need to create them in your shop first) and you can enable the automatic sending of gift cards when the payout sum is reached by an affiliate. You can also specify the text of the email your affiliates will receive.

Online Store Credit

This payment option is for BigCommerce stores, as they do not support gift cards.

If you choose to use it, your affiliates will be asked to provide a customer email. When you want to make a payment, you need to set the credit in your BigCommerce panel (you can refer to this tutorial: https://support.bigcommerce.com/articles/Public/Giving-Customers-a-Store-Credit), manually send an email to your affiliate to inform them of the payment and then mark the sum as paid in Affiliatly. To do this, go to the Affiliates page, click the cogwheel in the table, go to the Earnings tab, enter the sum you paid in the “Paid sum” field under “Manually mark sum as paid”. Finally, click the “Save the marked sum” button. This will deduct the sum from the affiliate’s unpaid earnings.

Cheque, bitcoin and Google Wallet

These payment methods are not handled by the Affiliatly app itself and payment must be done manually. It is important to note that after payment using these methods you need to mark the sum as paid the same way as with the bank transfer method.

  1. Can I create an affiliate system where the lowest earners up to a certain point can only cash out via gift cards. If an affiliate reaches a certain milestone they then can get payed out via PayPal?

For example with a 15% commission, when earnings are under $50 a gift card is rewarded. Once $50 in commission is earned a PayPal transfer is then earned.

    • Hi Ricardo. You can achieve this by enabling both payment methods and when you are making the payment, you can choose based on the affiliate’s performance, which method to use.

    • Yes, you can. As you are making the actual payment and only marking the paid sum in the app, you can use whatever method you wish. You can check the “by Cheque” method as it has all the fields needed for making a payment with western union.

  2. I want some affiliates to have the option of being paid by paypal. However I want all other affiliates to only see the “gift card” payment method.

Is this possible? I suspect not and I might have to find a new app if I cant solve it. Hope you can help

    • Hi Marcus, sadly this is not possible, all affiliates are seeing all available payment methods.
But you can enable only the gift cards as available payment and manually pay via Paypal the affiliates you wish.

  3. Can gift cards be applied to future payments automatically? For example, if I have a subscription service with Cratejoy, can we set it so the gift cards automatically apply and if there is a remainder then they are charged on their card?

    • Hi Ty,
I am not sure that I understand. Gift cards are used only for you to “pay” the affiliate’s earnings. The affiliate receives gift card code (generated by you, in your store before that) which they can use to buy something from your store. We are only sending the gift card code, how is the card handled, depends on your store and the rules you have set in there.

  4. Suppose I want to pay all my affiliates automatically via gift cards every time their earnings hit $50. Will i have to setup a new gift card for each payment and for every affiliate manually every time or is their a way to setup multiple gift cards in one go on shopify so that affiliatly can send these out automatically whenever an affiliate’s earnings hit $50?

    • You need to create gift cards in your store for 50$ first. Then, set the “Default minimum payment” sum in Settings > Payment also to 50$. Enable gift card payments from Settings > Payment > “Available Payment methods for paying affiliates” and go to Settings > Payment > Gift Cards Settings. There you need to enable the automatic sending of gift cards and list the ones you created in the field at the bottom, separated by commas. Every time an affiliate reaches the minimum payment sum, a gift card code will be sent automatically to their email address. Affiliatly will notify you when you run out of gift card codes, so you can create new ones.

    • Hi,

We recently added the “Online store credit” payment option, because BigCommerce stores do not support gift cards.

If you enable it, your affiliates will be asked to provide an email for the store credit. When you want to make a payment, you need to set the credit in your BigCommerce panel, manually send an email to your affiliate and then mark the sum as paid in Affiliatly.

  5. I am interested in setting up a group of items within my shopify store that will automatically attribute affiliate payment listings to ‘the designer of said products’ when those links are purchased from. Is this possible with your app?

I understand I still have to manually approve the actual affiliate payments.

    Thank-you.

  6. Hi. A few of questions:
    – If I want to pay my affiliates through a store gift card as their reward for hitting let’s say £100 of sales, but then switch to a PayPal commission payment for everything above that, is that possible?
    – What is the minimum payout via PayPal? I read somewhere it’s £100 but that seems high?
    – Does your app have the ability to auto-invite each of our new customers to join the affiliate program?
    – Can I link different banners to different landing pages? i.e. to the page that’s relevant to the product being promoted in the banner

    • If I want to pay my affiliates through a store gift card as their reward for hitting let’s say £100 of sales, but then switch to a PayPal commission payment for everything above that, is that possible?
      – you can do that, you can switch the affiliate’s payment method from their details window

What is the minimum payout via PayPal? I read somewhere it’s £100 but that seems high?
      – whatever you set it to be

Does your app have the ability to auto-invite each of our new customers to join the affiliate program?
      – yes, check option “Invitation mail for your store’s customers” in Settings > Notifications, but keep in mind that this option is available only for certain integration options.

Can I link different banners to different landing pages? i.e. to the page that’s relevant to the product being promoted in the banner
      – yes, when you are uploading a banner you will see a field for setting a landing page for that banner.

  7. I don’t see a place in the site to request a payout. Seems like there should be a simple way for an affiliate to request a payout once their payout threshold his met. Thanks

    • Hi, with Venmo, you have to pay your affiliates manually via that service and then mark the sent sum as paid in Affiliatly > the affiliate’s details window > tab Earnings.

    • Hi Joe, note that payouts are manual (except the gift cards and the PayPal API) i.e. you pay your affiliates via their chosen service (from the service’s website) and then mark the send sum as paid for the affiliate in the app. What info of the affiliate do you need for making payouts via Payoneer?

    • Hi Willis, you can not enter directly credit card as a payment in your Affiliatly admin panel, as we are not directly sending payments. You have to use a external payment service for that.

    • HI John, sadly we do not have this payment method. But can you please tell me what info is required so you can use it to transfer money to your affiliates? M-pesa Account ID ?

  8. Hey there,
is there a way to issue an “invoice” after marking the sum of money as paid?
So, based on user details, it can pull all data together and make the invoice for it?
    Thank you,
    Matt

    • Hi Matt, You can set up a email notification to go to the affiliate whenever your mark an amount as paid in Affiliatly. However, we do not have a feature to send out an attached “invoice”.

  9. Hey! Most of my affiliates want to get paid through paypal, but I have one who prefers to be paid in cash. How do I go about that for his account?

    • Hi Krista,
you can pay that affiliate in cash, and then just mark the money as paid earnings in the affiliate’s details window > tab Earnings in your Affiliatly admin panel.

  10. Hi! Can I set up a different type of payment method than the ones listes? If I wanted to have “Donation to charity” or something similar, for example.
    Thanks!

  11. Hi,
Is there an option for affiliates to request their money?

And if we choose to make the payment directly from our PayPal account, not through the Affiliatly app, will we be able to update it manually?

    Thanks!

    • There is no way for the affiliate to request their money, however, if you set the minimum payout amount and enable the email notification – Affiliate reached payout sum – You will be sent an email whenever an affiliate has reached that amount for payout. Navigate to Settings > Email Notifications > Your email notifications and enable the option.

after you make a payment for an affiliate, you will need to mark the sum as paid in Affiliatly. To do this, go to the Affiliates page, click the cogwheel in the table, go to the Earnings tab, enter the sum you paid in the “Paid sum” field under “Manually mark sum as paid”. Finally, click the “Save the marked sum” button. This will deduct the sum from their unpaid earnings.
